CMHC Pulse Blog

The 19th Annual CMHC transformed Boston into the epicenter of cardiometabolic health and risk reduction from October 17-19, 2024, bringing together healthcare professionals from around the globe for the largest event of its kind in the US. The Hilton Boston Park Plaza became a hub of innovation, education, and collaboration, uniting nearly 500 clinicians under a shared mission: to redefine cardiometabolic care.

This three-day medical conference hosted a diverse range of specialists, from cardiologists and endocrinologists to primary care and lipidologists, all converging to exchange ideas and shape the future of cardiometabolic health. The 19th Annual CMHC was more than just CME/CE medical education—it ignited global collaboration and inspired groundbreaking innovations.

Day 1: Setting the Stage for Innovation

The event kicked off with a PME breakfast, setting the tone for four dynamic educational tracks. This year’s CMHC was dedicated to the late Dr. George L. Bakris, MD, and his memory was honored throughout the meeting, starting with a video tribute at 8:00 AM on Thursday, October 17, featuring heartfelt memories from his CMHC colleagues.

Keynote speaker and atherosclerosis expert Peter Libby, MD, captivated the audience with an update on his research into inflammation and atherosclerosis. He discussed therapeutic options not only for treating atherosclerosis but also for preventing cardiovascular disease. Dr. Libby made a poignant observation, emphasizing that his LDL goal for patients is “ALARA: As Low As Reasonably Achieved.”

Attendees dove into cutting-edge topics, including FDA updates, resistant hypertension, and cardiac biomarkers. “I am very inspired and rejuvenated at the 19th Annual CMHC. Looking forward to the annual meetings right here in Boston,” reflected one participant. The highly anticipated Welcome Reception in the Exhibit Hall provided the perfect opportunity for networking, exploring the latest products and services, and building lasting connections with key community leaders.

After the reception, many attendees enjoyed dinner at the PME (Non-CME) Dinner Symposium or ventured to one of Boston’s trendy Back Bay eateries.

Day 2: Expanding the Horizons of Cardiometabolic Health

Day 2 featured groundbreaking presentations from leading cardiometabolic health pioneers. Experts like Louis J. Aronne, MD, discussed advances in obesity pharmacology, while Virend K. Somers, MD, PhD, shared insights into the connection between sleep and cardiometabolic health. Jose C. Florez, MD, PhD, explored the future of precision medicine in diabetes.

The Happy Hour and Giveaway in the Exhibit Hall was a standout, with exhibitors showcasing innovations in cardiometabolic health. From bioimpedance analysis (BIA) assessments to inviting lounge areas with comfy seating and wood flooring, the hall buzzed with energy.

Many attendees reconvened for a PME (Non-CME) Dinner Symposium, where clinicians and faculty enjoyed a delicious meal while exchanging ideas and gaining valuable product insights.

Day 3: Wrapping Up on a High Note

The final day continued with a robust lineup of expert-led sessions. Pamela B. Morris, MD, led discussions on LDL-lowering therapy, Martha Gulati, MD, MS, FACC, FAHA, FASPC, FESC, presented on cardiovascular outcomes in women, and Christie M. Ballantyne, MD, explored Lipoprotein(a).

A key highlight of the day was the debate on challenging lipid management cases, featuring a panel discussion and audience Q&A with Robert H. Eckel, MD; Martha Gulati, MD, MS, FACC, FAHA, FASPC, FESC; Erin D. Michos, MD; Pamela B. Morris, MD; and Michael D. Shapiro, DO. This session offered attendees a robust, evidence-based discussion on this critical topic.

With a focus on evidence-based, whole-patient cardiometabolic care, the annual meeting featured over 25 expert CMHC faculty presenters, offering thought-provoking lectures on topics ranging from Albuminuria Change as a Marker for CKD Progression to Exploring Solutions for Severe Hypertriglyceridemia and FCS. The weekend concluded with memorable closing remarks from CMHC Co-Chair Christie M. Ballantyne, MD
