Dr Mitchell L Shiffman graduated from the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and then completed residency training in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. From 1990-2009 Dr Shiffman was the Chief of Hepatology Section and Medical Director of the Liver Transplant Program at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, VA.
Dr Shiffman started and has been the Director of the Liver Institute of Virginia at Bon Secours Mercy Health since 2010.
Dr Shiffman has published over 350 articles in peer reviewed medical journals, invited reviews and/or book chapters, has edited 3 textbooks on liver disease, and has been the guest editor for 2 issues of Clinics in Liver Disease.
Dr Shiffman is a Fellow of the AASLD, was a member of the Board of Trustees of the American College of Gastroenterology from 2004-2010 and has been recognized as a Master Physician of the American College of Gastroenterology.
