The American Academy of Pediatrics released its 2023 “Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation and Treatment of Children and Adolescents with Obesity,” which contains evidence-based recommendations on medical care for the diagnosis and management of obesity in the pediatric population. New recommendations underscore that obesity is not a question of willpower, but a health condition with complex biological, socioeconomic and environmental drivers that deserves comprehensive treatment; behavioral and lifestyle interventions alone do not work for everyone.
