Stephen A. Harrison, MD, FAASLD, was a pioneer in the field of hepatology and a respected faculty member of the Cardiometabolic Health Congress (CMHC). During his 20-year service in the U.S. Army, Dr. Harrison served as the director of Graduate Medical Education at Brooke Army Medical Center, the associate dean for the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, and as a gastroenterology consultant to the Army Surgeon General. He retired in 2016 with the rank of Colonel.
His contributions significantly shaped the current state of hepatology and the broader scientific community, evidenced by his role as an associate editor ofย Hepatology and Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeuticsย and as a peer reviewer for over 20 prestigious medical journals. Dr. Harrison left a prolific publication record of over 350 peer-reviewed articles andย 50,000 citations, achieving an H-Index of 106.ย He served as the medical director of Pinnacle Clinical Research and cofounded and chaired Summit Clinical Research in San Antonio.
Internationally recognized for his research and treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and his key role in the development of the first FDA-approved MASH drug, Dr. Harrison leaves behind a legacy of excellence in liver research and patient advocacy.ย He is greatly missed by Cardiometabolic Health Congress and the entire medical community.
