About

Dr. Bakris is professor of medicine and director of the Comprehensive Hypertension Center within the Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of Chicago Medicine. His clinical pursuits involve the the treatment of diabetes-related kidney disease, and the diagnosis and reduction of high blood pressure using Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring. Dr. Bakris’ research is focused on understating the factors that influence kidney disease progression – especially on racial disparities – and the interactions between hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease. He has published more than 700 articles and book chapters in the areas of kidney disease, hypertension, and progression of nephropathy, and edited more than 19 textbooks dealing with kidney disease, diabetes and the role of hypertension in these conditions.
